The purpose of homework is to help reinforce what was taught in class or to have students gather extra information beyond what was demonstrated in class. Homework is one part of daily classroom management that can cause many teachers problems. Homework must be assigned, collected, reviewed and assessed. That amount of work means homework must be designed to serve an academic purpose, otherwise, the results may be a great waste of student and instructor time. Here are a few tips and ideas that can help you create an effective method for collecting homework every day. Physical Homework New teachers find out very quickly that day-to-day instruction is made much more effective when there are organized daily housekeeping routines. In developing these routines, if there is homework to collect, the best time to collect it for use in instruction is at the beginning of the period. Methods you can use to accomplish this include: Station yourself at the door as students walk into your room. Students are required to hand you their homework. This greatly reduces the time it takes to complete this task because it is mostly finished before the bell even rings.Have a designated homework box. Explain to students how they are to turn in their homework each day. To keep track, you might remove the homework box after the bell rings and class begins. Anyone who does not get it in the box will have their homework be marked late. Many teachers find it a good idea to give students a three to a five-minute window after the bell rings to avoid possible confrontations and to keep things fair. Digital Homework If the technology is available, in school and at home, teachers may prefer to give a digital homework assignment. They may use a course platform like Google Classroom, Moodle, Schoology, or Edmodo. Students may be asked to complete homework individually or collaboratively. In this cases, the homework will be time-stamped or a digital student is associated with the work. You may use that time stamp to show the homework has been completed on time. Digital homework may include programs that provide immediate feedback, which will make assessing much easier. On some of these platforms, there may be an opportunity for a student to repeat an assignment. Digital platforms allow teachers to keep an assignment inventory or student portfolios to note student academic growth. You may choose to use a â€Å"flipped classroom† model. In this model, the instruction is assigned as the homework in advance of class, while the hands-on practice takes place in the classroom. The central idea with this kind of digital homework is similar. In a flipped classroom, the homework serving as the teaching tool. There may be videos or interactive lessons to provide the instruction that happens in class. A flipped learning model allows students to work through problems, suggest solutions, and engage in collaborative learning. Homework tips When it comes to daily housekeeping chores like collecting homework and taking roll, creating a daily routine is the most effective tool. In Chronicle of a Death Foretold, the town is very critical and strict about chastity and premarital sex. Maria Alejandrina Cervantes is the town madam which by society’s standards makes her to most marginalized, but ironically she is not brought down by her society’s rules. Gabriel Garcia Marquez uses characterization and irony to demonstrate Maria Alejandrina Cervantes’s contradictory role and to develop the theme of going against society in Chronicle of a Death Foretold. The author uses a metaphor to compare Maria to a warlike crane in order to show her power and grace. The crane is a bird that stands tall and may look elegant and enticing but because Maria is â€Å"a warlike crane† she is able to stand up and fight for herself while still maintaining her grace. The Effect of Legalizing Prostitution on the Economy free essay sample

The rich keep getting richer because they are within their own tax bracket, the poor keep getting poorer and the government isn’t making any money out of either side. They are trying to tax pretty much everything possible to get America out of this debt but nothing seems to be working. There have been some ideas about making marijuana legalized so that they could heavily tax that which I believe would be a good idea, because so many people in the United States use it already and if they started selling it and taxed it highly then I believe eventually it would pay off Americas huge debt. Another idea which is in a whole other bracket is legalizing prostitution and placing high taxes on this practice to hopefully chip away at the debt. A lot of people would argue that legalizing prostitution is immoral and sending a wrong message to the youth of America. Take a look around through. All the violent video games, media, sex in media and use of language is sending the youth of America a bad message. And not to mention all the people of high stature lately who have been caught dealing in prostitution. In these hard economic times people can’t control whether or not they get laid off. They also can’t control whether or not they called in to an interview. And for those who don’t have any money coming in because they no longer make unemployment what are they to do. We don’t want them to sell illegal drugs because drugs actually affect people’s health. But legalizing prostitution and making sure that it’s safe and somewhat healthy really is not a bad idea. If this is what people want to do for a living we should let them. It’s their body and if they feel comfortable with that and can make a good living for themselves they should be fully inclined to do as they please. Most of the time people who participate in prostitution are people for lack of a better phrase are people with money. Governor Elliot Spitzer of New York has involved in prostitution and is also considered to be in a high tax bracket. If we had this legalized and taxed this could be a great potential money maker to pay down on the national debt. And this is just one of the high profiled cases that we found out about, imagine all the prostitution that goes on right under the government’s nose. This really is a potential band-aid. It can help heal the national debt, employ people with jobs and get rightful taxes from people who deserve to pay them. With the power that the government has they can also create this practice so it’s safe and actually somewhat healthy. If it came down to the debate should the country legalize drugs or prostitution I think it would be a fairly interesting debate. At the end of it though drugs negatively affect the body and can alter the health of humans, whereas prostitution more specifically sex is a fact of life. What we’re really looking at here is the state of the economy. Our country is in the biggest debt of its history and has no signs of making a full comeback. It’s going to take a lot more than little taxes here and there to pay down on this deficit. What we need to do is create jobs and create a more creative way to tax people to obtain the funds needed to pay down the national debt. Why is the national debt so important? Because everyday our dollar becomes worth less and less on the global market. And the more this keeps happening more the United States globally economy begins to be hindered instead of just nationally within its own borders. Legalizing prostitution is not something that is going to happen overnight and I’m not saying that it should be either. There are a lot of things that need to be ironed out. And legalizing prostitution does not make our country corrupt. We would no longer have to have people hanging out on a street corner in promiscuous outfits; it could become a tasteful business. Think of the crime that we could eliminate in areas such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City. This could even help create a rebirth for Atlantic City which has slowly been going under since the recession began. Our ultimate goal as a country is to avoid a depression like that of 1929. We need to pull ourselves together and be the mega country in the global economy. We should create a new faith in people with their jobs, home, banks and overall government. We can’t have people questioning government tactics but rather stand as one and support every decision. And when people say that legalizing prostitution is not a good idea, because you know there are always going to be protest, we can look at all the other ideas that aren’t the greatest. Look at how backwards our Electoral College system is every election people feel like their vote doesn’t count. And unemployment, people who have been working hard all their lives and can no longer collect unemployment to help their families survive is losing everything. And to make it worse our government won’t even put a cap on college tuition and every year these prices are going up. The problem parents can’t help their kids with student loans and you have all these new students with thousands of dollars and debt and no jobs to get to help pay them back. Prostitution may not be the most moral and respectable occupation out there. But anyone who works hard to make a living and survive in my book is respectable. I think we should help them by legalizing it. This could reduce crime and be taxed which would help pay down the national debt. Our government has considered crazier things and to be honest legalizing marijuana is not that different than legalizing prostitution. If officials really looked into this factor and made it professional, clean, and regulated it this could be a great potential money maker. And where there is a potential money maker there is the potential to help pay down national debt. With that being said we can help bring this country back to where it used to be and create the value of a dollar to be stronger. It’s critical that the United States re-obtain its status in the global market. We need to become a power house again but before we do that we need to reform the crisis on our home style. Legalizing prostitution can be done tastefully and can actually make a difference in our country. And in the end the worst thing that could happen is the idea backfires. The government can just come in again and take it all back; at this point anything is worth trying at least to get our country back on the right track.

Answer: Introduction The report will discuss in detail about a case where the new VC and President of Super Star University (SSU) decides to make some major changes in the faculty processes and also include some important expansion plans. For this the university held its Strategic Executive Retreat to discuss the plan and implementation plan further. It is important to understand here change is the only constant thing in every organization however; employees are the one who resist the change at the first place and the main reason is behind the resistance is bad management of change in the workplace (Anderson and Anderson, 2010). Therefore, when managers are the ones who have to implement change and they dont possess the training and development whenever it is important. Contrast and critically analyze the change process used in the two different Faculties. Application of change process in Faculty of Arts When Professor Max Blocks held strategic Executive Retreat and invited various university executives and directors, he asked to make appropriate changes in every department. Therefore Professor Sandy Lots, Executive Dean of Arts called for around three hundred staff to brief the new vision related to the implementation plan (Anderson and Anderson, 2010). The first step of the Professor is to inform everyone in the department to inform about the major changes that will take place in the coming time. These changes will be related to different faculty processes and new set of expectations will be set for performance for the new strategic direction in the university (Hayes, 2014). The main focus of the company is actively involving every member of the department and at the same time she focuses getting constant feedback. For the same reason she also established four working parties and four distinguished faculty professors (Anderson and Anderson, 2010). The team appointed for making changes suggested changes in the faculty research training processes which are further accompanied by the constant focus on quality and quantity of research. The report also focused on new recruitment strategies for postgraduate students as part of future leaders in academics. It was also decided that the focus on learning and research will help in fundraising activities at domestic as well as global level. It was important here the faculties are engaged at every step of changes process and implementation plan and at the same time, the faculty also decided to engage with future students so brightest and best students can become the part of the university. Various processes for streamlining the procedures followed by faculty were discussed and the focus was made on strengthen the level of accountability and transparency in the overall decision making processes. Not just this lot of changes in different parts of department was suggested and well taken by every member of the department and the main reason behind of level of engagement and involvement of every member in the change process (Hayes, 2014). After finalizing all the changes the Dean, Professor Lots called for a meeting in order to consider different feedback and recommendation on the plan. After proper discussion and an approval from every member the changes were decided. Application of change process in Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Sciences After returning from the summit, Professor Anthony Court, Executive Dean of the department called all the executive members of the faculty (Hayes, 2014). The dean informed everyone in the department about the new vision of VC. He emphasized that major changes are crucial and for which he also established three working categories head by eminent professor and also invited other professional faculty staff to join different working parties while determining new directions for new faculty members. Among all the recommendations, new faculty processes were suggested that lead to greatest level of transparency in decision making and high level of accountability and there were many other changes suggested by the party. When the reports were received, Professor Court called for a meeting to inform the staff about the new directions and plans. The reaction of every member of the department was shocking and they were insecure about their jobs and the future of their career (Cameron, and Green., 2015). There was major level of dissatisfaction among everyone. There were number of trade unions and other member protested the changes and claimed that the changes are in favour of Australian Workforce Agreement (AWA). In fact, the matter further worsened with the union members deciding to escalate the issues and conflicts to the Fair Work Australian Tribunal. What are the major sources of resistance to change in the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Sciences? If you were an Executive Faculty Dean, how would you overcome staff resistance to change? Following are the main reasons of resistance to change in the department: Insecurity: it is important for people while working in the organisation to feel comfortable for a certain period of time, a change in the overall environment often bring a level of uncertainty and people at the same time will no longer aware of the fact that what to expect from the changes (Hayes, 2014). When there is a feeling of insecurity, employees faces different kind changes from one kind of culture to another. Social loss: changes have the power to bring some major loss in the society. The informal work group can be extremely strong by nature and when a change cause a faculty to be shifted and the overall power of the group will be decreased (Cameron, and Green., 2015). Discontent of control: when people in organisation are constantly told to alter the place and they are constantly made to realise that the employees have no other option but to adapt with the changes. This may also create some level of resentment among the employees and they may not have control over the destiny of people (Pohl, 2010). Unanticipated repercussions: it is important for the organisation to have a system and make changes in one division will have some unwanted repercussions (Bordia et al., 2011). Threats to influence: when there is any change it decreases the base for power of a group, or any kind of division, even if it is better for the company and it is more likely to meet certain level of resistance among people which can be related with the changes (McMurray et al., 2010). How to overcome staff resistance to change? Following are the methods through which university can overcome staff resistance to change: Effectively engage employees: it is important to engage employees at every stage and the company must receive and respond to every kind of feedback especially those who are opposing the change (Kotter, 2011). It is important to make sure that every employee is happy and every work gets done, therefore they should be constantly kept in the loop. Overcome opposition: despite the fact how well university manage the change, there is also going some level of resistance (Cooperrider and Whitney, 2011). Companies must engage those who can oppose to the change and this way, they can actively foresee the change and the concerns of the employees. This will also alleviate the issues in timelier manner (Raineri, 2011). By doing this, employees will also get time to contribute their ideas and also assure them that are part of an important team that actually understand and care about the staff (Hargreaves et al., 2014). Communicate change in an effective manner: - the best solution for this problem is to communicate the changes to the employees in an effective manner. This will require a blend of formal and at the same time informal communication channel that will permit the university and the department to ensure all employees have received the news about the change anyhow (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2010). Conclusion Companies of every kind constantly go through changes since when the industry grow, businesses and in this case universities will have to evolve. Change can be anything from switching to new processes or new recruitment plan that can impact the business in all possible manners (Gattermeyer and Al-Ani, 2013). However, it does not mean that it has to change for wrong reasons. It is important that change is dealt in an effective and at the same time in a responsible manner and when it is done correctly; it can benefit the company and also make the transition in a smooth manner (Gattermeyer and Al-Ani, 2013).
